Operational Units

An operational unit, or 'Op Unit', is a subsidiary of a company. It has its own defined management structure, independent of a parent company. It has stated assets and liabilities, also independent of the parent company.

A parent company can include many operational units. In the application context, you can set up operational units, and then define users for each. Permissions given to those users only allow them to perform actions within that Op Unit. From the data perspective, any users and data configured for an Op Unit are only available to users assigned to that Op Unit, unless configured otherwise. For example, a report administrator can only configure and run reports on data from within that Op Unit.

It is important to note that you configure settings for an Op Unit similarly to the client parent organization. Identical settings for an Op Unit override settings configured for a client parent organization, for example, in the Enable Requisition Types settings, if you enable the Staffing setting for a client organization, but do not enable it for the Op Unit, then it is not available for the Op Unit. Settings descriptions are identical for Op Units and client organizations. For information on the relevant settings for an Op Unit, see the related configuration section for the client parent organization.
