Cost Allocation at the Engagement Level

Cost allocation is configured through billing custom fields, but you can additionally restrict the values that can be applied to billing at the engagement level. You can restrict visible values for a particular field (value not set to 'Global' only), or you can set a value as a default for that is added to the billing line.

Note: Client managers can manage allocation values at the engagement level in the same way they are managed in the MSP view. You can restrict their ability to add new values to the allocation table (only configure pre-existing values from a reference list) in the client organization's configuration (Configuration > Settings > Configuration > Manager tab > Do not allow Managers to type new allocation values onto Engagements). Management of allocation values is performed on the Allocation tab of an engagement.

The Allocation List displays the billing custom fields that are available for the engagement. You can modify the sort order for all fields, and set interdependent fields. The Allocation Value List displays the values that are available for the custom field where the field appears for the user type and user view.

You can add a value to the list (if it does not appear) by using the Search functionality. To add a value, click .

Then click .

In the Value Name field, enter text that describes the configured value. Search results return values that appear on the field reference list.
Note: Only values that appear on the reference list appear in the search for a particular field.
To add values, select the check box and click . The value is now available for selection by the user. If you need to specify a default value for the field, select the check box for the value in the Default column. The field requires that the default value setting (Configuration > Settings > Custom Fields > Billing tab > <field_name> > Allow MSP to set Default Value). This setting automatically sets the value in the billing line. Click .
Note: The default value is visible to the client manager, but not editable. The value is not visible to other user types.

Additionally, you can require that a user configure a value for an interdependent field. This setting requires a value when a linked field is specified. Select a field, then select , and from the Interdependent drop down, select the dependent field. Click .
